Happy National Historic Preservation Month! In honor of this month, the City of Puyallup has highlighted some of our city’s downtown historic buildings in a fun scavenger hunt. Your goal is to identify all the historic buildings by their architectural feature clues. While you’re out searching, don’t forget to practice social distancing to stay safe and healthy. You can submit a picture of yourself outside of your favorite historic building wearing your COVID protection for a chance to be featured on our website! Please submit you photo to firstname.lastname@example.org by June 30, 2020.”
Property owners of structures listed on the local historic register were recognized with a plaque from the City.
The City of Puyallup has an active historic preservation program that is administered by the Puyallup Design Review and Historic Preservation Board. The Puyallup Register of Historic Places, and historic property surveys and inventories are all part of this program focused on conserving and protecting the city’s historic resources and promoting civic awareness of the city’s robust history.
Historic Preservation Plan
Puyallup City Council adopted the Historic Preservation Plan on August 23, 2016. The plan supports the City's status as a Certified Local Government (CLG), a federal program designed to promote historic preservation at the local level, which is vital for the City of Puyallup to maintain the remaining sites with historical significance. The plan recognizes the work completed thus far with the CLG program, establishes goals and policies, and an action plan to help guide the historic preservation program
